Title I

The West Jefferson Hills School District operates a school-wide Title I program at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School.

Title I is a 100% Federally funded supplemental education program from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Federal Programs that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to improve educational opportunities for educationally deprived children.  The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), provides an exception for participating Title I schools with less than 40-percent poverty rates to request waivers to operate Title I Schoolwide programs. Transitioning to a Title I schoolwide program increases a school’s flexibility to address the needs of all students.

Students attending Jefferson Hills Intermediate School receive Title I services in the form of small group reading instruction.   In addition, students receive writing instruction through Units of Study in Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing by a teacher who specializes in this program.  Click here for more information on Units of Study: Writing
