WJHSD offers several video production and broadcast news learning opportunities for students at different grade levels. Jefferson HIlls Intermediate School, Pleasant Hills Middle School and Thomas JeffersonHigh School each have their own TV and digital media production studios to enhance student learning.

Students have the opportunity to learn about video production beginning in sixth grade with the production cycle of pre and post production and gain a deeper knowledge in seventh grade with a focus on editing. Eighth-grade students take charge of the live production of the morning announcements. The students create content for the daily announcements and PHTV News. The students learn each aspect of the live production from audio board, set editing, title bars, scrolling contents, lighting, camera techniques and more. Students rotate jobs for the 12 weeks to create a weekly piece of content. As they are designing, filming, and editing the content, students will learn all aspects of the studio. This project-based class gives students the opportunity to gain skills in writing, public speaking, technology, filming, artistic creativity, and telling a story to their peers and to the community

The TJTV Studio at Thomas Jefferson High School is equipped with the latest TriCaster multi-camera video production system and boasts the same sound control electronics as those used on Broadway. TJTV provides students with a hands-on course set around the creation of daily television announcements and productions. Students are involved in announcing, scripting, producing and interviewing, directing, shooting and editing. Productions will require students to attend and report on various activities after school hours. Students can take this course multiple times and build on previous years’ knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of technologies.
