Mrs. Merwin began her teaching career within the Elizabeth Forward School District where she spent 14 years in the classroom teaching English Language Arts spanning several different grades and academic levels. During her tenure, she was highly involved with extra curricular activities including the National Honor Society, serving as a class sponsor to multiple graduating classes, as well as planning many major school events and fundraisers.
Mrs. Merwin collaborated on several key school initiatives during her time with the Elizabeth Forward School District, serving as a part of the Apple Professional Development Team, member of the Senior Project Committee, Summer School Facilitator, Cyber School Coordinator, and member of the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Committee. Having earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Duquesne University in 2002 and her Master’s Degree in Education from Gannon University in 2008, Mrs. Merwin’s experiences over the years led her back to Gannon University, where she earned her Principal Certification and Curriculum Supervisor Certification.
During the spring of the 2015-2016 school year, Mrs Merwin began her administrative career as an Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School in the West Jefferson Hills School District. In 2018 during the K-5 reconfiguration, Mrs. Merwin transferred to the position of Assistant Principal at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School, to assist with growing enrollment. While Mrs. Merwin remains the Assistant Principal at JHIS, she has also undertaken the responsibility of developing the district’s new Cyber Academy, which is expected to grow substantially throughout the upcoming school years.
Motivated by a deep love of learning and commitment to the students of WJHSD, Mrs. Merwin strives to provide all students with a positive environment where they feel safe and valued. She attempts to model the district core values in her everyday activities and daily interactions with all students, faculty, and staff.
