Message from the Principals

On behalf of all faculty and staff of Jefferson Hills Intermediate School, I would like to welcome you to our outstanding school. Inside of our doors, you will find a knowledgeable, committed, dedicated team who are inspired by the successes of all of our students. We share in the belief that through a strong, active collaboration with students, parents, guardians, and community members, we can create a safe and exciting learning environment that challenges all of our students. We also believe that through a continuous process of analyzing student data, we are able to actively differentiate our instruction and educational programming to meet the specific needs of each and every student that grace our hallways and classrooms.

Through the effective delivery of rigorous, relevant, and aligned curricula, our educational team works diligently to create a positive school culture, designed around our students, to assist them in reaching their fullest potential. However, we can’t do it alone and need your help! The staff of Jefferson Hills Intermediate believes that a child’s education begins at home with the interaction of parents, grandparents, childcare providers, friends, and neighbors. Many factors influence a child’s life, but the most powerful influence is family. Being part of a family is a lifelong connection that defines an individual long before they reach our doors. Your continued efforts to encourage regular school attendance, daily completion of homework, and fostering a passion for literacy have greatly assisted our students to succeed. We truly appreciate your active involvement in our school and the continued family support. We would also like to acknowledge and thank our wonderful PTA and numerous parent volunteers for donating both their time and energy to ensuring that the students at Jefferson Hills Intermediate have access to a variety of educational resources and activities that enable them to have a positive educational experience. We believe that a school cannot truly be successful without a strong parental support system like the one we are fortunate enough to have in place here at Jefferson Hills Intermediate. Thanks again for everything that you do for our children!

Jefferson Hills Intermediate School
has an enrollment of approximately 800 students in grades 3-5. Each of our grade levels has ten sections/homerooms, with an average class size of 27 students. In addition to the core academic subject areas, our students attend art, music, physical education, and library on a weekly rotation. Additionally, students also will have the opportunity to participate in an instrumental band and choral program beginning in third grade. Our educational team remains committed to ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary 21st century learning skills that will allow them to function in today’s global society and maximize differentiated learning opportunities.. Through the district's 1:1 technology initiative, every student is issued an iPad to actively engage in learning both inside and outside of the physical school setting.  In addition to all classroom being equipped with technological resources such as interactive boards, our students, staff, and faculty have access to additional innovative spaces/programs (Media Cafe, TJ3D Club, Hen House in the Hills, Outdoor Learning Environment, Living Animal Exhibits), each of which provide meaningful and applicable learning opportunities for our students. Our focused vision of developing and sustaining 21st century learning skills and numerous technological resources allow our educators to supplement and enrich the curriculum in a meaningful and engaging manner, consistent with student needs, interest and familiarity. Gifted Support, Learning Support, Life Skills Support, Speech and Language, Social Emotional Development, School Based Mental Health Therapists, and access to multiple paraprofessionals are also offered for students who may be in need of additional supports/interventions and enrichment opportunities. The West Jefferson Hills School District also contracts with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) to provide additional services (Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), English as a Second Language (ESL), Vision Therapy, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Support) in order to meet the needs of each and every student that we are fortunate to have in our district.

Due to the strong commitment to student achievement and well-being throughout our school and community, we are pleased to announce that our students continue to perform among the highest performing schools, not only in the area, but throughout the Commonwealth.  We are extremely proud of all of you and the effort that you have exhibited in order for our students to continue meet the highest expectations of the West Jefferson Hills School District and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about the exciting things happening at Jefferson Hills Intermediate and taking an interest in your child’s education. If we can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
