As the 2024-2025 school year gets underway, the West Jefferson Hills School District continues to experience rapid enrollment growth. On August 26, 2024, the district welcomed 3,499 Jaguars to its five schools. That number is expected to increase over the coming days and weeks as more families are currently completing the district’s enrollment process.
The first-day-of-school enrollment figure represents a nearly 4% increase from August 2023. Enrollment in the West Jefferson Hills School District, comprising West Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, and Pleasant Hills, has grown by 12% in the last five years and by more than 22% from the 2016-2017 school year.
The West Jefferson Hills School District is the fastest growing school district in Allegheny County. Projections from the Pennsylvania Department of Education predict a more than 10% enrollment increase by 2028. WJHSD is the only school district in Allegheny County with a projected double-digit enrollment boost in that time period.
The West Jefferson Hills school board and administration have anticipated the enrollment surge. The district has been working with its architect on a feasibility study to serve as the foundation for future plans to enhance the district’s facilities to support the rapid growth. The feasibility study should be finalized and shared with the community later this school year.
