Class of 2025 Graduates in Ceremony at TJ Stadium
A light rain could not dampen the celebration of the 222 members of the Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 2025. The high school’s sixty-sixth Commencement was held on Thursday, June 5 at Thomas Jefferson Stadium with hundreds of family members and friends of the graduates in attendance.
Gavin Hart, senior class president, was one of the three student speakers during the evening ceremony. He commended his classmates for all being natural born leaders.
“From early on in our high school careers all the way to our graduation, we have always taken charge and, furthermore, have led with passion and dedication,” Hart said. “These two passions are embedded within all of us.”
Senior Caitlin Joyce, an AP Scholar and National Honor Society member, applauded the Class of 2025 for its perseverance and left her classmates with words of advice.
“Resist the temptation to take the easy road,” Joyce told the graduates. “Be authentic. Be human. Continue to critically think and do not settle for anything less than remarkable. If not for yourself, do it for the world. Your drive will empower others.”
James Hausman IV delivered an address entitled, “Earned, Not Given,” where he spoke of the graduates’ high school accomplishments achieved through slow progress, diligence, and thoughtful decisions.
“This is what it means to be a Jaguar – to confront every challenge, to think ahead, to learn from our losses, and to persist no matter the odds,” Hausman remarked. “It means showing up with quiet determination, putting in the work when no one is watching, and trusting that our effort speaks for itself. We persevere. We prevail. We are TJ.”
After receiving their diplomas, two members of the graduating class were recognized for their future service to our country in the military. Brad Deery will enter the United States Marine Corps. Brooke McGrew will enter the United States Air Force Air National Guard.
Nearly 80% of the Class of 2025 will continue their studies to earn associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. Another 10% will attend trade schools or enter the workforce.
