Health Services
The West Jefferson Hills School District’s School Health Program is staffed with certified school nurses at each school building. The school nurse cares for the health of the students in illness and injuries and refers parents/guardians to the appropriate medical provider when applicable. The school nurse communicates and collaborates with parents/guardians, administration, principals, teachers, school counselors, and social workers for the health and safety of the student. The school nurse is responsible to verify completion of Pennsylvania Department of Health and Allegheny County Health Department immunization requirements and report compliance to both agencies. The school nurse provides yearly screenings in grades kindergarten through 12 according to Pennsylvania guidelines in vision, hearing, and height/weight/body mass index.
Please contact your child's School Nurse with any health concerns, questions and updates to your child’s existing medical needs.

Required Health Examinations for 2025-2026 Year
The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires the following examinations.
Your child should attend school each day they are well. Every absence, even part of a school day, interferes with your child's progress at school. In order to be ready for new steps in learning, your child must have mastered the previous steps and be sufficiently ready for the new material.
For the protection of your child and others, please do not send your child to school with symptoms of any of the following:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours
- Vomiting in the last 24 hours
- Diarrhea
- Persistent cough
- Sore throat with swollen glands
- Earache
- Widespread body rash
- Contagious illness, eye or skin infection until treated by your physician and released for school attendance.
If your child does not feel well before coming to school, keep the child at home under supervision. Communicable diseases such as colds, strep throat, pneumonia, or influenza frequently begin with symptoms such as fever, vomiting, sore throat, or skin rash.
