Centers are "Toad"ally Awesome!
Centers are special areas in our classroom with planned activities that reinforce and/or enhance the first grade curriculum. Students work in small groups or independently using instructional materials to explore a subject area. Centers are an important and fun part of our week.
Listed below are some of At the Listening Center, favorite stories are available on cassette tapes for student enjoyment and appreciation.
Fine motor skills are put to a test at the Copy Cat Center. Students can cut and trace patterns for art projects, make puppets or mold clay into artistic creations.
The Post Office is stocked with markers, writing paper, stamps and envelopes. Letter writing skills shine when students take this opportunity to write notes and letters to each other, friends or family members at home.
At this center, students are able to add stickers to illustrated stories. This sparks their enthusiasm for creative writing.
At the Word Center, students will review vocabulary words with word games, board games, bingo, and concentration.
Choosing classroom books to read can sometimes be a difficult task when there are so many favorites available. Kids read to one another, sequence story events, or read with Clifford.
One of our favorite centers is the Computer Center. A variety of educational software is available for students to use at this center.
