Open Office
(an alternative to Microsoft Office)

Microsoft (MS) Office is a powerful office suite allowing users to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, etc. Unfortunately, MS Office can cost anywhere from $150 to $250 depending on the version purchased. There
is a free alternative available that I would like the users in this district to be aware of - Open Office. Open Office has been and will always be free. It looks like and is quite compatible with MS Office and allows users to open MS Office files, modify them, and then save them back as MS Office files.  Open Office is a perfect option for your home PC. As with MS Office, Open
Office includes a Word processor, Presentation Program, and Spreadsheet Program. Unlike MS Office, it also includes an intuitive web page creator and advanced drawing and painting tool. Open Office also allows the user to save files in Adobe Acrobat format. Unlike some versions of MS Office, Open Office does not include a Database program but one can be downloaded separately. Open Office can also be used by students at home wishing to continue with their assignments or work created in MS Office at school.
