Ms.
Marissa Reed, School Psychologist |
Ms. Reed
joined West Jefferson Hills School District in November of 2006
as the district’s first full-time school psychologist. Ms. Reed
received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University
of Pittsburgh, and her master’s and school psychology
certification from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. As
an undergraduate, Marissa’s area of research was the effect of
maternal depression on toddlers. Before attending graduate
school at IUP, Marissa worked in a childcare setting for two
years as a site director and preschool teacher. In graduate
school, Marissa was involved in various projects and research
involving rural gifted education, bullying prevention and
intervention, and teacher knowledge of the special education
process. Marissa completed her school psychology internship at
Fox Chapel Area School District. Prior to coming to West
Jefferson Hills, Marissa was employed as a school psychologist
by Troup County School System in LaGrange, Georgia, which is one
hour south of metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. As a school
psychologist for Troup County, she worked in conjunction with
other school psychologists in the Psychological Services
Department to reduce disproportionality in special education
within the school system. She is currently completing her
doctor of education degree through IUP, specializing in
family-school relations.
Marissa’s
educational philosophy is ecological in nature. She believes
that high consideration and importance should be given to all
systems that encompass a student, including the home and
community environments. Parental involvement and investment in
the educational process is a high area of interest for Marissa.
Marissa
resides in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh. Her personal
interests include Pittsburgh sports, traveling, reading, movies,
photography, fine arts, contemporary poetry, and dogs. She
enjoys spending time with her family and friends. |
