Every January, we take time to celebrate and recognize the challenging and vital work the WJH School Directors do on behalf of our students, families and community. School directors volunteer several hours each month to board work, which includes adopting policy, voting on budgets, approving curriculum changes, choosing textbooks and reviewing hiring decisions, just to name a few. They take time to learn about the issues affecting public education and to seek innovative solutions. As unpaid, locally-elected officials, our school directors are invested in the community as neighbors, friends, local leaders, parents and senior citizens. During this month of school director recognition, please join us in thanking our school board members for their time, efforts and dedication to advancing public education!

The West Jefferson Hills School District is seeking community volunteers to serve as board members for the West Jefferson Hills School District’s Foundation for Education. Originally established in 2001, the District is in the process of reviving the Foundation for Education to further academic excellence and invest in student growth and achievement while fostering community support. Successful applicants will be asked to serve as a governing member of the Foundation and to provide guidance and direction for fundraising and program development. Board members will be asked to participate in regularly scheduled meetings and support Foundation events and activities.
Community members interested in serving on the Foundation for Education Board of Directors must complete an application form available at the following link: https://www.applitrack.com/WJHSD/onlineapp/

As mandated under PA state law/Act 44, the district is required to participate in the “Safe2Say Something” (S2SS) program beginning on January 14, 2019. This program teaches students, teachers, and administrators how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and Say Something to a trusted adult OR use its anonymous reporting system. The West Jefferson Hills School District will begin registration in March of 2019 for parents/guardians of children who will be entering kindergarten in the Fall of 2019. All children who have reached five years of age on or before the first day of September, or five years of age on the first scheduled day of school, are eligible to enroll for the 2019-20 school year. The district is exploring the implementation of online registration and additional information will be available to parents shortly. To help prepare for registration, please have the following information ready to submit:

• 2 proofs of residency, such as a deed, mortgage statement, bank statement, lease and/or utility bill
• Child’s Immunization Record 
• Proof of Lead Testing from your child’s physician
• Copy of birth certificate
A boundary map is provided based upon home addresses to determine which school your child will attend. Click here to view the boundary map and see the elementary school your child will attend. All students entering Kindergarten, Grade 1 or Grade 2 will attend either Gill Hall or McClellan Elementary Schools, while all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 will attend Jefferson Hills Intermediate School.

On January 8, 2019, the Board of Directors of the West Jefferson Hills School District will hold a special meeting to vote to approve the RFP for the Gill Hall Elementary School Expansion Project and any other business that comes before the board.The meeting will be held in the Thomas Jefferson High School Cafeteria, 310 Old Clairton Road, Jefferson Hills, PA. A TJHS Forum was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 to provide parents with information on proposed recommendations to the 2019-20 school year such as the addition of Personalized Learning Time (PLT), eliminating class rank, as well as information on graduation requirements, and AP testing. Admission representatives from local colleges and universities were on hand to provide a panel discussion on admission criteria and assessment.
