Grade 6 This course provides students with a background in physical science and
laboratory skills. A Drug and Alcohol unit, including the DARE program, will
also be presented. The students use a hands-on approach to successfully develop
laboratory skills based on the chemistry and physics provided in the units. The
ASSET Program will also be used to supplement the investigations. The metric
system will be used exclusively in all laboratory procedures. Assessment will be
based on group work and individual effort on tests, quizzes, laboratory
experiments, and daffy activities.
Grade 7 This course provides students with a background in life science. A Drug and
Alcohol Program will also be presented. Students will use laboratory activities
to apply investigative outcomes to verify scientific concepts. The computer lab
will also be utilized to emphasize written and oral communication skills.
Assessment will be based on individual effort on tests, daily activities,
laboratory work and procedures, quizzes and group activities.
Grade 8 This course provides students with a background in earth and space science.
The major disciplines presented will be geology, meteorology, oceanography,
astronomy, and cartography. The students will use laboratory activities to help
develop and analyze scientific concepts in the related fields. The students Will
monitor worldwide earth science events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.
using the computer lab to reinforce the course material. During the astronomy
unit the planetarium is used extensively. Assessment is based on individual
effort on tests, daily activities, laboratory work, quizzes and reports.
Students are recommended for ninth grade special biology from the earth science
classes.
