Grade Level 6 The purpose of sixth grade reading is to examine the various genre of reading
material and to provide the strategies needed to appreciate them. Those reading
strategies are centered around six themes. In addition to fundamental reading
skills, the students will apply such skills as critical thinking, analysis, and
interpretation. This course provides for individual assignments, cooperative
learning projects, and class discussions and presentations. Assessment is based
on tests, quizzes, class assignments, oral presentations, and homework.
Grade Level 7 The Grade 7 reading course focuses on reading strategies and provides
opportunities for the students to explore as readers. The students use text
reading, plays, novels, newspapers, and magazine articles to practice the
reading strategies of predicting, summarizing, questioning, and clarifying. This
course also utilizes a variety of reference materials and involves the research
skills of note taking, summarizing, and compiling a bibliography. Evaluation is
based upon the students' performance on tests and quizzes, oral and written
projects, and the completion of assignments.
Grade Level 8 Communications is a course designed to develop the basic communication
