Grade 6--Spanish (9 weeks)
Students at this level are taught about the importance of
foreign languages in our world today. This course provides students with
an introduction to the Romance Languages and cultures of the people who speak
them. This course focuses on Spanish vocabulary and culture. Basic
Spanish grammar and sentence structure is taught. Etymology of Spanish
vocabulary is also studied. Fun learning activities are emphasized at this
level. Progress and grading are based on in class assignments,
participation, and projects.
Grade 7--French (9 weeks)
This course provides students with an introduction to the
French culture and language. French grammar is compared to Spanish
grammar. Etymology of both languages emphasizes their relationship to
their mother tongue, Latin. Students are taught basic vocabulary and
grammar. Cognates make speaking French fun because there are so many
similar words between the two languages.
Grade 8--Latin (9 weeks)
This course provides students with an introduction to Latin, the
Roman culture the Latin language,
and Classical Mythology. Students will learn basic
vocabulary and grammar through speaking, writing, listening, and reading
activities. Students will doscover how the Romance Languages emerged and
developed from Latin. Students are always encouraged to make "connections"
between Latin and it's relationship between French, Spanish, and English.
Students will also discover how Latin and Roman culture, in large part, have
influenced the modern world.
