Our school Butterfly Garden
serves as an outdoor classroom for the children to study nature.
Since it
was started in 1996,
it has been a release site for the butterflies raised by the second graders,
a place for art classes to draw from nature and a reading nook for kindergarten.

Our garden is maintained by
teachers,
students and parent volunteers.
We are in the process of having our garden
certified as a National Schoolyard Habitat
by the National Wildlife Foundation.

Ideas,
plants and seeds have been shared and traded with the following neighboring
school
districts that have started their own gardens:
Mifflin County School District,
Belle Vernon School District,
Frazier School District and Connellsville School District.
