Message to Parents Concerning School Closings and
Delays:I would like to thank
our parents for their patience and understanding during
the severe weather conditions that have resulted in
recent school closings and delays. Many factors are
considered in the decision to close or delay school. In
any situation, first and foremost the safety of our
students is at the center of the decision. Hopefully,
our weather will begin to improve soon. Bear with us

The West Jefferson Hills School District is again pursuing federal appropriations with the objective of securing the necessary funding for two programs that will benefit our students. Please join us in this effort by adding your signature to a letter of support to be hand-delivered to each of our two legislators, Senators Specter and Casey.
The West Jefferson Hills School District would like to recognize and congratulate PHMS Vice Principal Justin Liberatore for bringing the PRIDE award to the school in hopes of boosting student morale and recognizing students who might get overlooked. Click

The Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, (DMVA).
is accepting applications for the Persian Gulf Conflict veterans
Benefit Program. Any individual who served in the U.S. Armed
Forces, Reserve component or the Pennsylvania National Guard in the
Persian Gulf Conflict during the period of Aug. 2, 1990 through Aug.
31, 1991 may be eligible. Details of the program are available
on the DMVA website.

The West Jefferson Hills School District is pleased to announce
that it has acquired a new centralized and more effective integrated
student information system, known as PowerSchool. This system
replaces the LetterGrade application that we have been using
to manage student information. PowerSchool Student
information Systems will help us reach our goal of an enhanced
learning experience, by giving administrators, parents, students,
and teachers timely access to the information they need.

ATTENTION Parents: Graduation Competency Exams (GCA's)
may soon be a requirement for all Pennsylvania
students. Read WJHSD Board President
Shauna D'Alessandro's testimony to the Senate
Education Committee on behalf of SHASDA. On February
26, 2008 the WJHSD Board of Directors passed, by
unanimous vote, Resolution No.
230 - 08 opposing the adoption of GCA's which you
can read here. Should you agree with the district's
position in this matter, please consider
writing/emailing your local state senators and
representatives, as well as PA House and Senate
Education Committee Chairpersons, to express opposition
to this proposal.
Clearances for parent volunteers: The School Board
approved a Clearance Policy (Policy No. 124) for volunteers
at the regular Board Meeting held on February 26, 2008. If you have any questions, please
contact

application for the Childline and Abuse Registry is
www.dpw.state.pa.us. The on-line application for the Criminal

The West Jefferson Hills School District has received notification
from the Pennsylvania Department of Education that each of our
five buildings has received the Keystone Achievement Award
celebrating the attainment of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
for the 2004 - 05 and 2005 -2006 school years.
The presentation
of these awards took place during January's School Board
meeting. Since the creation of the
award three years ago, all five buildings have earned this
distinction each year. Congratulations everyone!
